I'm trying to track down some family money that was put in a bank account in england years & years ago. I'm in Australia and i dont know any other details except the family name the account would be under. what are the major banks in England & does anyone have any idea at all how i would go about finding something like this???

I doubt whether the banks will tell you any information, as everything is confidential. Try and get a lawyer to look into it for you.

There are many banks in England. All banks adhere very strictly to the Data Protection Act, and they would need to see offical paperwork before realsing any information to you at all.
HSBC
Barclays
Nat West
Halifax
Abbey
Coutts
Lloyds TSB
Nationwide
The Co-Operative Bank
Bradford and Bingley
Alliance & Leicester

Therer should be over 50 banks in Uk, you atleast need to know the name of the bank.
