I have searched my father's side all the way back to the 1820's they were free, but since they were in North Carolina they might have been slaves at one time. I have not searched my mother's side much (I can't seem to get beyond the early part of the 20th century there) but my I remember my mother talking about her great grandparents who were slaves in Kentucky.

I have. At my family reunion last year my family gave our history. We have remained close for generations (goes back to my great-great grand parents on a plantation in Louisiana in the mid to late 1800s). So they were probably slaves or at least my great- great- great grandparents were slaves. I wish to go do further research in the future.

If you are talking about black people in general who haven't been born in Africa, for example, African-American and Caribbeans, all of them can trace their ancestry to slavery. All black people originated from Africa, and the majority who didnt willingly leave Africa, were slaves.

Omg you didn't think this would start crap. HAHAHAHA, yeah everyone will say they can so they have something to keep bitching about. When the reality of it is, in comparison to the general population of African Americans, only a a few of them were actually slaves. It was like 15%. Being black doesn't automatically make you a slave, or have slave roots.

Are you serious? Most blacks don't even know where they came from! Because they were forced to come here against their will and told to forget about their heritage.
