Dreams are often messages from our subconsciousness. Things we don't think about when we are awake. They might be scary but if you write them down it may be that there are some similarities in them that your own mind is trying to tell you. Once you learn about their meaning then they wont seem so scary anymore and may in fact help you with situations that scary to you in awake time. Try making a dream journal for your self and maybe you will see what you are supposed to see. Eventually no more fear and no more nightmares.
Hope this helps hunny.
Bless

The only way for this not happen is to: a. Stop watching them b. Tell yourself over and over again at night that it's not real and think of how the movie was made, not the creepy storyline of the movie. Remember, it's just a movie - it was created, it's not a true story. Sometimes even "true" stories aren't even true at all. For example: "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre". That movie was supposedly based on Ed Gein, a serial killer. He looked normal, he lived in a normal little town. He went crazy after his mother died and started killing woman. Ed Gein was a sick b*stard but he didn't use a chainsaw to kill his victims and he wasn't disfigured. I had to do a project about him for my criminal justice class this past semester at college. He had barely anything in common with the character in the movie. I finally had to stop watching scary movies because I got tired of feeling so nervous at night and being unable to sleep. If you want to watch something fun then go see a comedy. Movies where people get torn apart and mutilated disgust me anyway. I don't know how anyone could watch a movie like "Hostel" all the way through - I heard what happened in that movie and it disgusted me!

Your voluntary muscles are paralysed to a certain extent, since we evolved from tree dwellers, and moving in your sleep in trees is not a good idea, and tends to kill off those which did, and those which didn't, reproduced offspring with that trait. It seem to be carried over into your dream self, too, as with me, too, sometimes. You could try hypnotherapy. There is a section on dreams and nightmares in the most recent blog of Shan Eris on "tackling depression" at www.myspace.com In the Yahoo directory there is a dream analysis facility. You need to visualise yourself confronting the source of your fear in your dreams, as vividly as possible, just before bedtime, and want it very, very much. Learn dream analysis, and keep a journal and read books from the psychology section of the library on the subject.

i know exactly what your talking about, you feel like your body is in a deep sleep but inside your wide awake and you cant move. your in the 4th stage of NREM sleep where you will shortly begin your REM sleep. when your feeling this is sorta right at the border between them, since your REM you are in "paradoxical sleep" which just means your mind is giving signals to your muscles that are not responding, like being paralyzed. don't be frightened it is normal. to prevent this there is no exact cure just as for nightmares, but you should an hour before sleep do a wind down routine. no TV, no stress, and just let things calm down don't be worried about having nightmare its just more stress on your mind and that's what you will act out in your dreams

Same thing happened to me when I was your age. I think it was mostly related to my lack of control over my own life. We're still very much powerless in our teens, even though we feel ready for more responsibility.
The dreams will pass as your responsibility for your decisions grows.
The paralysis is actually just you coming out of your dream slowly, don't sweat it.
