its just polls & surveys for people who think they're deep & clever?
the questions are basically the same, and so are the answers-just without the humour, hmmmmm

Man you "philosophical" types are touchy, i didnt diss philosophy, in any way, it intrigues me, greatly, it was the YA section that amuses me, because its not philosophy at all but a poor imitation in guise.

I, for one agree (apart from the humour part). I started on answers by visiting philosophy, science and religion. Although i am not educated in those subjects, i seemed to hold my own.
Now i concentrate on p&s which seems to cover all subjects even humour - although some won't accept this. To some i may appear the teacher. To others i am the subject or patient. That's what i like about this place. I can be myself, i can say most of what i think, and people can learn something from the idiot such as i - even if it's only how to laugh in times of misery, boredom and frustration. At work or at home. The same goes for me with my fellow yahooers ;)

That's relative though. If you believe to have a 'higher' understanding than all else, please understand that it's all subjective. To the minority whom will agree with you, if you believe it to be so, then do something positive and help others in how to construct, develop, and progress their philosophy; although ultimately, interpreting life experiences into formalized words is a subjective act. And the power of subjectivity is not meant to dishearten, because otherwise, you might as well kill yourself as far as tryna take the world a couple steps backwards. Language should be understood to be a social construct. Understand the epistemology of why we would form coherent vocals for life experiences and you're on your way to navigating the seemingly infinite (actually, just billions) different languages spoken. But if these words are not enough, take up mathematics to help further your novelty seeking; otherwise you stagnate.

i like philosophy and it doesn`t have to be humourless .its the snobby high brow type of people who think they`re the only ones capable of philosophising that are lacking in humour the same way that people who are good at spelling assume any one who isnt must be devoid of inteligenence some kind of a moron

No, Philosophy is a wonderful thing, good for the brain and the soul, you don't have to be either deep or clever to understand it, just open minded without the blinkers on.

I avoid that and R&S like the plague ... all that talk of fire, brimstone, and self-actualization makes me want to projectile vomit.

It seems to be the spot for idle chatter, when people actually have no idea what the hell the question is.
