Well, that depends on where you're going to live in France, if it's in the countryside, get ready to draw. After that depends on the population as well, if you go to Britanny there is a lof of British. In all the case, if it's to live you can live without speaking French, I have a friend who used to live in Paris during 1 year and half and he wasn't able to have a basic conversation even at the end of his stay (lazy to learn it ^ ^). One thing is sure, even without to be bilingual, the people appreciate if you know at least some words or make some effort to speak French. Concerning work, that's a matter of fact you need to speak French. I mean you're secretary so you are in contact with people, so usually it requires, after there are different levels. Maybe you can post in FUSAC, a magazine for english speaker.

You would be required to be as fluent in French as you are in english to be able to work as a med sec, even if working for an english doctors there as you'd be communicating with the french counterparts constantly

??? of course. In the same way as in the US (or in the UK) you are expected to speak English!!!

As a medical secretary, you would have to be fluent in spoken and written French, as you would be in touch with clients of all ages and extractions who may not speak English themselves (unless the position description specifies you would be dealing with an expat population, but that is quite rare...).

abit of a silly question really but
i would think you would have to deffinatly type and speak in french as this is their first language but as you probably know alot of english speaking people move to france so you would have good prospecte in being able to fluently speak both good luck if you decide to do this for a career

To work in France undoubtedly you would need to speak French, particularly as they are very sensitive to their wish for people to use their language

Yes, you would need to speak, write and read Fench for that type of job.

AND the french computer keyboard is different layout and contents.

It would be a great advantage for you to be able to speak French.

People from foreign countries come to English speaking countries and they struggle.
