I'm researching this for a story I'm writing. Sadly, but to my amusement, almost all my Google searches come up with 42.

A suggestion to any other kind of future-telling works written around or before the Middle Ages would be perfect. Thanks!

There are the Dead Sea scrolls. They don't specifically answer the question of life, however they apparently question the answers to life that are supposedly provided in the Bible (Christian) and the Torah (Jewish).

I seem to recall that the specific content of these scrolls has not been revealed simply because they would shake up history as we know it.

Interesting stuff. Wish I could be of more help.

42 comes from Douglas Adams. In his Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy trilogy this race of people build the ultimate computer just to ask it what the answer to the ultimate question was. It answered "42". They spent another billion years building another computer to come up with the correct question to the answer.

The meaning of this is that it's not the answer you need to find, but the right question. Also, do you want the answer to life, or do you want something that tells the future, or what? These are two seperate questions. The meaning of life is to live it. It's not the destination but the journey. If you want divination tools, I can give you a huge list. the I-Ching is one of the oldest and most powerful. Also tarot cards, pendulums, etc, etc. all have different forms of use and power. There's more, but you have to ask more questions! :-D

Indeed it's interesting that you ask for the 'answer to life'.

I think even your question is open to interpretation!

Do you mean the origin of life or the reason for living, for example?
