They are Chinese.Yes.They are originally Chinese mountain people and travelled to the malayan peninsula.However todays malay people are the mixed of the Chinese and the first people who live there.

Malay people was complex to define since they look like all races in the world. There has Malay who looks like totally Chinese, Arabs, Iranian, Indian, Turkish, and so other races as you can find.

contrary to popular belief... the malays of today are descendents of the proto-malays..... the proto malays were (based on archeological findings) migrants from a remote mountainous region in china (huinan region .. if i still remember my grandpa's history book)..... They came to the Malay Peninsula and later mated with the indigenous people of the peninsula... hence creating what is known today as the Malays....

However.... you won't find a true-blooded malay today as all malays (whether they admit it or not) are products of interracial integration.... I myself am of malay-arab-chinese-indonesian heritage ..... outwardly.... i look like a typical malay but with slitted eyes (like a chinese).... and arabic facial hair features... LOL..... i've been mistaken for a Chinese, Javanese and also a pan-asian before....

So... there u have it....
