A few hours might not be enough for the Prado, since its pretty big, but there s also a great modern art museum close to the Atocha station. The great Retiro park is there too.
One thing I really like in Madrid, is that you can have a really good meal for very little money. Either tapas and beer or cuisine, they have it all. I'd recommend the Lavapiès area.
In the Opera area, you can see the Royal Palace, a beautiful park and a church with a statue of pope John Paul II.
The hop on/hop off bus could be a good idea too, as you see a lot of things in a short period of time.
It's your choice!
Enjoy Madrid!

Lene H said it best,ly suggested the hop on-hop off bus is a good bet if you are there for a day, but as YOUR title suggests a few hours might be different.
If I found myself in your shoes, I wouldn't rush to see anything at all but rather take a stroll and see La Plaza Mayor or Plaza del Sol? Why not have a Madrileño specialty, a Calamari sandwich?
If you ARE an art buff, el Prado is indeed quite large and impressive but not nearly as impressive as the collection in the Thyssen-Bornemisza Gallery. An absolutely awesome collection of impressionists and expressionists. Save the el Prado's classic collection for when you are older, you won't regret it if you go!
¡Buena suerte!

the Prado museum, that's really it. It not the best place for sightseeing in Spain. You can take the tourist bus (like the ones in London) and hop on and off.

when in spain check out PULLS AND BEARS. It is a clothing chain and they have awsome collections. Whenever someone of my friends is there I let them bring something for me. Blind guess will work there!
