i'm from malta and im 17 years old. if you really are into historical stuff you should come to malta! there is the oldest building in the world...even before the pyramids...alot of tourists go to see these temples. also mdina the old capital city is exceptionally beautiful...only about 130 people live in it mostly noble people such as knights. while you re there you should visit the cathedral and some small museums and displays and you cannot not go to fontanella...everyone loves fontanella they have the most delicious chocolate cake in malta!! its a little cafateria in mdina with good food and a spectacular view of malta. another place you should go is valletta the current capital city...alot of museums and churches to visit while there you must visit the flea market where you can get bargain prices. Other historical places include: The Three Cities, The Hypogeum, The Roman Villa, The Cathacombs of St.Agatha and St.Paul, St.John Co-Cathedral (in this you can find the famous painting 'The Beheading of St.John by Caravaggio), Ghard Dalam. You also have to go to Gozo which is much much cleaner and more quiet than Malta. And if you're here in summer you must go to Blue Lagoon a beautiful beach with crystal like water on the small island of Comino. To go there you must first go to Cirkewwa where you can either catch a boat for Comino (where only one family lives there) or the ferry for Gozo. Paceville is the place you must go for night life. many clubs pubs and bars to go aorund. the best is definitely axis...it is the only discotheque where you have to pay and very cheap...only Lm1.50 which is about 3 or 4 euros. you can dance all night long...most clubs open at around 9pm and close at around 4am. Drinking Law: at the moment the age is 16...anyone over 16 can drink but it might change because teenagers are drinking alot. all the other clubs are free and there is very good music....you can find clubs for techno house dance hip hop r'n'b reggae rock and any kind you like. not far off from paceville there is baystreet..its a small mall with good shops but sometimes it proves to be expensive..but than again....F.C.U.K is always very expensive (thats one of the shops in this place). there are alot of rocky beaches and a few sandy beaches like Ghadira Bay, Ghajn Tuffieha Bay, Paradise Bay and St.Georges Bay. malta is worth the visit! My first impression of Malta was that it is predominantly beige! Everywhere seemed to be the same colour! The only beach in Malta is in the north at Paradise Bay so it's not really an island that attracts the young and livelies. However, St Julians and Sliema have plenty of bars and nightlife, and also a pretty harbour. There are some nice historical sites if that's your bag (the old capital of Mdina is great for a stroll around) and the capital Valetta is very picturesque. Perhaps not the place to go for longer than a week or so, and it does attract a lot of pensioners! However, I really enjoyed it (for a short stay - and I am not a pensioner!) but I would recommend going for a hotel with a nice pool area, so you have somewhere to chill out. The people are friendly and English is widely spoken.

You will either love or hate Malta, depends on what you are looking for.
Has a lot of sightseeing, castles churches and historical places.
If looking for nightclubs fun pubs (ie benidorm) not your place.
Not many beaches anywhere.
Good bus service but rickety.
Exchange rate not very good.
Nightlife mainly in St. Julian's or Paceville, this is mainly on a Friday or Saturday night when the locals come out.
Out of season, many older people visit

hmmmm, well let me put it this way i am 17 and went to malta last year with a group of friends and we LOVED it! we stayed at st julians bay where the clubs are, the hotel we stayed at was called the intercontinental, check it out, and we were right in the middle of everything - we pulled, though i can c what people mean that it attracts the old people, however, we were staying in probably the only place that has teenagers so we didn't see any oldies!

People say you either love it or hate it & I think that's true. It's like a cross between the Greek Islands & Venice. Very historic, a bit scruffy & tatty. If you are into history, Valetta is fantastic. You can take a trip to Gozo which is similar but v.e.r.y quiet. The people are lovely. Not the place to go if you are just after a beach holiday.

I would say quite honestly that from my visit to Malta, it is an island which is good if you are old but otherwise not. It is very quiet, very small and extremely cramped but if you 50 years old or more or if you are looking for somethign NOT too hectic then this island may be for you.
