surface tension is the force acting perpendicularly to an imaginary line drawn on the liquid surface which tends to pull the surface apart along the line .its unit is Nm^2.its due to surface tension that insects can walk on the water surface, camphor dances on water, this makes water behave like stretched elastic membrane.
