My mother in-law used bird netting around the garden, especially the vegetable garden.
Works really well, caught many a snake, and prevented my daughter from being bitten when she was playing out side, (she was about 4 years old) the snake could not get at her because it was caught up in the netting, giving her time to run away.
The snakes we caught were normally tiger snakes, and brown snakes. Both of which are lethal if medical treatment is not sort.

I've heard that if you place Moth balls around your house, snakes hate them... also the professionals have stuff they spray on the ground that is suppose to get into the ground and "burn" them when they try to cross it.
Good luck.. nobody likes snakes around their house!

ever heard of a King snake
they eat any snake that gets in their territory
If I every saw a poisonous one in my garden that's what I would do
they don't bite people
