1. My first suggestion is to get hold of a "Dummies" series book on HTML, Javascript.

2. Then go through http://www.w3schools.com/html/

3. Next easiest of the lot now is ASP, so if possible learn it. If you want to get into .NET world, start off with .NET Framework and ASP.NET.

By the time you complete this, you yourself would have got some good idea on how to proceed further.

Read and practice Web development for Dummies.Thats the best series for beginners.

If you are interested in client-server application you can learn about servlets, JSP (or ASP), and even J2EE or dotnet.
