When 22-32 years old, I were not in a good condition to continue my education. So I got my master degree when 36 years old--rather later for me. Now I would like to try to get a doctorate degree. But I felt I were less enegetic after 40 years old. I wonder if I am able to finish my doctorate programme(I have registered one doctorate programme).

Actually I can do my job quite well. To get a doctorate programme, I just would like to improve my research capability--to improve myself and to have more experiences always let me feel better.

First of all, analyse why you want to do the Ph.D.. If it is just for honour's sake you are less likely to complete it. But if a genuine desire to expand your knowledge about the subject or to help the Society solve some of its problems is the motivation, age will not stand in your way. I am sixtyfour and and am happy to be studying at this stage of life. The only obstacle for most people is the Statitstical Analysis portion of the work.. You can employ a Research Assistant from that field and pick up sufficient skills to defend your thesis, and leave the rest to the Assistant, if the work over burdens you.I assure you that the quantitative and Qualitative Analysis skills ,once learnt, will be a great asset to you, for future use,After all, a Ph.D. is only a licence to do recognised Research work and assures you proper attention when you speak, but it is not an end in itself.

My father got his at 48. There was a woman writing her dissertation at the same time who was in her sixties. When she was asked about being done in three years, at the age of 64, she said, "How old will I be in three years if I don't get my doctorate?"

I have a friend who got her doctorate when she was in her late 50s; this was just last year. She was very busy while getting her degree but is very happy that she did it. She got her masters when she was young, but did not have any trouble with getting her doctorate later in life.

Go for it and good luck to you.
