You will need to load the itunes cd that came with the ipod. If you have multiple computers in your house, pick one computer, and only use that computer for uploading and downloading music. I have a 60 GB video ipod and only use one of my 5 household computers to do everything ipod and itunes related. The problem I originally had when my wife and me bought our ipods together was trying to use one computer for both our ipods. She would load all her songs and get everything ready, and then I would follow her to do the same thing, but with my own music. What was created was a mess. When she hooked up her ipod it would totally erase all my songs and place all of the songs on her ipod back onto itunes. Finally when I came around do the same, I would have to erase all her songs in order to replace my songs on itunes. It took several arguments and threatening poses before we realized we needed to store our ipod information on different computers or we stuck in a constant ipod battle for supremacy on the one computer.

Make sure you like the one computer you will be using. Because if something happens to that one computer after you've loaded every cd you own on to it, you'll be screwed. Because Apple wanted get approval from the big record companies for their itunes programming, they made it impossible for you as the owner of the music and files from being able to move your music files from one computer to another computer freely. If your itunes holding computer someday dies, start crying, because you will have to upload every bit music and video in that old computer and upload everything in to a new computer by once again uploading every cd in your collection one at a time. Because itunes does not allow you to digitally transfer your entire account to a new computer. When I had to get a new 60 GB video ipod because my old one became deffective, it took me several days to RE-TRANSFER my 20,000+songs to the new ipod
