What a fire extinguisher is supposed to be used for is based on the codes on the label, not the color of the extinguisher.

Check the Label. Most fire extinguishers are RED. On the label it will have a Letter A, B, C, D, or K. If the extinguisher says ABC then this is a general all purpose extinguisher that can put out paper fires, liquid fires, and electrical fires. Remember to follow the instructions on the label.
