As findor said, you might find a game on Yahoogroups.
There are also a number of sites for running various kinds of online roleplaying games.
I use MythWeavers, which is an amazing play by post site.

Rpol is quite large and diverse, it looks like a decent site, but I've never used it.

There are lots more, but finding them can sometimes be tricky
A few sites I've heard of but never used

I still love to play board games. And I know that most people now days only care about getting drunk or doing drugs. Try to find some friends who are more intellectual and I guarantee they will want to play board games. They might be a little nerdy but i would choose that over a friend with a hangover.

Dungeons and Dragons Basic Game is presnetly in board form only, and likely to stay so since Wizards of the Coast is a little hardnosed about their copyrights.
You know, you may just want to aviod the board game and just jump to true D&D. The board game is just a simplfied adventure with minitures, something lots of gamers use now adays anyway.

Email and chat games are pretty common. Search Yahoogroups and you should find plenty.
I run a 2nd edition AD&D game via email (we've been going since February 2000). Email games are slower paced, but often have WAY better narrative and dialogue.
