I have a few ideas that are really nice and very personal that he can treasure forever.
1. A laser printed necklace or keyring with a laser photo of you put onto it. I got one off my fiancee for valentines day and it is absolutely beautiful.
2. For Christmas I gave my parents and my in-laws photos of the kids that had been put onto a clock face. If you re dad works in an office then this would be perfect. get a beautiful photo of you and him and get it done onto a clock. Every time he looks at the time then he'll see you and him smiling back!

Hope this helps.

As lame as this may sound to some, why don't you and your dad go out for the day; just you and him?

Go out to lunch (lunch is always just as nice as dinner and normally a bit cheaper), then just do things that you know he enjoys. Have fun with it. I'm sure he'll remember happy and fun memories together with you rather than memories of getting more materialistic things like cologne and clothes.

And throughout your day spent with him, just remind him of times that you remember as a kid that made you happy, stuff with him you remember and enjoyed. Just make the day about memories and simplicity. He's your dad, he'll cherish his time with you!

Just don't get him a giftcard- they're fine for casual friends that you don't know very well, but generally I think gift cards come off as lazy when you're giving them to someone close to you. Just a thought.

Take him out -- just you and him -- and go out for a pizza or go bowling, or just to a matinee movie (cheaper). I don't know what the weather is like where you live, but if it's a warm climate take him on a bicycle trip, go fishing, or minature golfing. Make it a day for just the both of you.

What are his hobbies....or what does he do in his free time? Maybe take him fishing or bowling...whatever he enjoys doing...but try to enjoy his birthday with him. That way he will always have great memories of a day when it was special and he was spending it with you.
