He is surely a great player in the off side but as a captain I dont think so.I think Dravid is a better choice that Ganguly.

He is a good player in the off side. Great captain?.. Hmmm.. I gotta think. If you look at the record, he may be but you have to see who is helping him to win. I don't remember too many instances where he kept excellent fielding positions and got the team to win or used his bowlers cleverly.
Though records dont speak, Dravid is more intelligent , clever and impartial when it comes to taking decisions. See for ex., the fielding position of Uthappa for Sangakkara and Jayasurya in the III ODI. Commentators were amused by Dravid's tactics. But he has to cope up with many players without form and still Indian win matches.
The one quality he is lacking is on the 'people front'. He has more corporate like behaviour. He ackowledges the 'team', than individuals. Even if he contributed to the win, he would still say it's 'team'. I am not sure if we are mature enough to understand it.
