How do I join the gears of war event?

I went to xbox.com and on the site their is a "calendar of events" link and it shows all the games that I guess people will be competing in...? All i want to know is how do i take part in the events and do you actually win something??

No. Its just to have a website "recommend" to play this game on that day. This way, the chances to find an open Live game is higher, since a lot of people who go to this calendar will think "Hey, today it's GoW day", and then play it online.

You participate in playing GoW and playing it Live. There is nothing to be won except new friends for your Live buddy list.
