Absolutely! If you want to start a business with very little overhead, very little upfront cost, you can't beat eBay!
But if you are looking for the quick buck, forget about it! Yes, you can make money on eBay, you can even save money on eBay, you can even quit your day job on eBay and yes, you can become rich on eBay, but it would take much work, luck for that to happen.
Begin with cleaning out your closet, garage, car trunk, attic, basement, etc. You would be surprised at what would sell. Do you have a hobby, subject of interest, antique, am a collector, are an expert at something? You could cash in any and all of that! For instance, I collect vintage Barbie and am pretty knowledgeable on those items. I have achieved Power Seller status on that knowledge and marketing.
Start Here:
http://pages.ebay.com/help/newtoebay/index.html
Don't buy into the 'Get Rich On EBay" Books, Classes, etc. baloney! THEY'RE the ones who ARE getting rich by people buying these books, classes - not YOU! Don;t buy those wholesale lists, either. The so called "wholesale lists" are no more than discounted retail priced items and are being sold up and down eBay as the hottest thing since sliced bread. You'll need to develop your own product leads as no one is going to divulge theirs as you are their competition.
You got to take the time to do the research, effort, find YOUR niche, what you know about to sell. And yes, all of what you heard is true. There were even eBay millionaires.
But don't get caught up in Reserved pricing or asking pricing just yet - you should know how to BID/BUY http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/index.html before you know how to SELL http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/index.html first.
It is not as easy as it looks, but not as hard either. eBay has free resources for you to use. Utilize ALL of them before you decide to buy into the "Get Rich On EBay" Books, Classes, etc if you feel like you are progressing fast enough, because, THAT'S where THEY got most of their knowledge.
eBay's Community Bulletin Boards, Workshops, Answer Center, Chat Rooms, and their extensive interactive Help feature has a dearth of information freely available to you. 99 3/4 of the online assistance that I have received came from other eBayers from the Community and I am a frequent contributor. The rest I got mainly from reading the Help files on the site While it may seem intimidating, it has been developed with our success in mind.
aBay has a Live Help chat available now with telephone numbers available to Store subscribers.
If I can be if further assistance, you need only ask - e-mail me.

It is possible to make a living off eBay how ever it is very risky to drop your day job before making a way for yourself. People buy products and sell them on eBay and sell them for more than they paid for. Something eBay is really cracking down on now is when someone says its a very expensive article of clothing when in truth it is not.

It is very easy to get kicked off of Ebay for a multitude of reasons. Ebays' customer service is non-existent, like trying to contact the Wizard of Oz. Unless you have an original product or a licensed vendor of some unique item, I wouldn't bother.

My neighbour quit his job four years ago and makes over $100,000.00 yearly on ebay. He visits garage sales and yard sales, then sells the items on ebay. He has hired 3 or 4 high school teenagers to take pics, package and ship, and other related tasks.
So my answer is a definite YES!
