Why we want to compare always. There is certain things which can never be compared. You can compare two different entity only if both are in the same perspective. Lara and Sachin are grown up differently, played differently etc. If you at all want to compare them check their statistics - nothing else.

If I ask who loves you more - Mom or Dad ? 95% of us can not answer.

Both are legends but Sachin is clearly the best out the 2.Just because Lara took a 400 in a match and that was a world record does not mean that he is the best batsman in the world.

Well, a difficult one. Sachin has all the records, but rightly said, he's not a match winner. Brian Lara is an ageing legend, that's all. He's consistent and has all the records too, but again, it could be argued that he's not a match winner either.

But, maybe you will have to change your question because the only 'best' batsman in both tests and ODIs who is a true match winner has to be Ricky Ponting. Can't think of anyone else...... It doesnt matter whether you have the records or not afterall, if you have a good team to back your efforts, like Ponting does. After all, cricket is not a one man game. all the other batsmen must build around the top batsman of their team like australians successfully do.............................

As far as match winnings goes, matches are won by the teams not individuals. And matches that India have won where Sachin has contirbuted are countless. And sachin's 41 centuries compare pretty well to 19 bye lara in ODI's , or his maximum test centuries for that fact are more than lara's. And one more record on tendulkar not being a match winner, form 1996 to 1999 India won three matches in total where Tendulkar made a score of less than 40, hows that for a painful fact? And another way of comparing the match winning performances is to compare the number of man of the match awards, enough said, u can do the maths on that one. I think the more important question at the present time is, is it sachin kissing the cup and retiring from one day cricket or lara? wouldn't you love to see them head to head in the world cup final and settle the score once and for all?

No doubt Lara is better than sachin. He is certainly a match winner but sachin not. Now the time of lara has gone.

Though Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for most centuries in test cricket and one day internationals, I consider Brian Lara as the best batsman in test cricket due to following reasons:

1) He holds the record for highest runs scored in a test
match innings (400 Notout and 375)

2) Holds the record for most runs in test cricket, i.e.11953 runs
from 131 test matches as compared to 10668 runs scored
by Sachin Tendulkar from 135 test matches.

However, as far as One Day Internationals are compared Sachin is the best in the world and no other batsman can be compared with him as he holds the following records in ODI

1) Most centuries (41)
2) Most Man of the Match Awards in ODI
3) Most Man of the Match Awards in World Cup.
4) Most runs scored in the World Cup
5) Most runs in IODI

I think first of all it wud be unfair to compare sachin and lara as both of them are legends and have donetheir countries proud. Moreover, one is a left hander and the other is a right hander. But life is so unfair, isn't it!!!!! Both have had their share of ups and downs. But if we compare both of them at their peak,in terms of sheer entertainment value Lara ,according to me is the better one to watch. The flamboyance and elegance of Lara is absolutely unmatched. Moreover, Lara has won more matches for his country in crunch situations than Sachin has.Who can forget those two successive test centuries against Steve Waugh's Austalian side in 1998. Pressure situations are the best times to judge champions and Lara by his performances in crunch situations has shown that he is the better of the two.

well u said dont mention ponting.i wont either because he is not the best.he is just going through golden phase of his life where his form is extraordinary.tendulkar also went through such phase few years back.
see its quiet difficult to compare lara and tendulkar.tendulkar isnt a match winner while lara is.or should i say match finisher.tendulkar is much better in one days while lara is much better in test matches.tendulkar is right handed while lara is left.so overall both are same.the one thing which distinguish lara from our own tendulkar is that he doesnt get into pressure so easily and can take his team to win even from a position where it seems that they r loosing...while tendulkar cant do that.
