Revenge doesn't make you happy because the emotions that inspire revenge are low frequency emotions and they cause your body to generate chemicals that are destructive to itself. You may experience a temporary high from an act of revenge like a sugar rush but then you will experience the related crash. Revenge does nothing to help you relinquish the bad feelings that are generating the toxic chemicals in your body. These are the chemicals that will undermine your immune system and cause unnecessary wear and tear on your organs and make you vulnerable to many diseases. Theoretically once you have "gotten even" you will be able to forget about what the person did to you and move on but you won't. The act of revenge will tighten your connection with that person and serve as a permanent reminder. You are better off choosing to let go and moving on.People who claim that revenge makes them happy are operating from a very low standard of happiness.

i dont think revenge has to do with necessarily hurting others. you could just end up very successful and feel good about it. like if someone was rude to you and then they see you 5 years later and youre doing great, that is a pretty good revenge. that is a productive revenge. however, if you hurt someone, that is a destructive revenge. hopefully, a person won't do that because thats not going to help. good luck on your essay.

I believe in Karma - what goes around comes around. I don't have to waste my own efforts getting even with someone else because I know Karma will take care of it. Why revenge doesn't make me happy? Because I would be going against the natural forces of Karma to get revenge(instead of leaving Karma to do its own thing) and anything achieved from that can never be justified. There is already a natural force in place to give people their just desserts and in my opinion, nothing else needs to be done- not even revenge, nothing.

I don't know about Monte Cristo but I can tell you that revenge does not makes us happy because our conscience is reproachful of it.

I disagree with the premise of your question. I know for a fact that revenge can make you happy. This may not be true in every case, but it is definitely true in at least some cases.
I think the myth that revenge doesn't make you happy began when we started giving trophies to kids who lose.

Revenge makes me happy, it depends on the situation. It's the system and beliefs that make revenge wrong in our society, which basically installs a reaction for you. Revenge is sweet, maybe when it's over you feel bored, so you feel unhappy, but it's usually sweet.

I guess it depends on who you ask. Personally I find it rather fulfilling.
