I got my butt spanked at school twice and also a good hand whacking with the ruler. I'm 33, so it really wasn't the olden days or anything.

I'm 60 years old and when I was in Junior High they spanked you with a wooden paddle. This was around the 1960's
I personally was never spanked, but heard of it from my husband and other students. They said that the Principal and another teacher (witness) would give you three wackes. I don't remember what the punishment was for, but it was usually about being disrespectful to your teachers, caught smoking, causing a fight or destroying school property.

By the time I went through school, it seemed like it was almost illegal for even a child's own parents to spank them. The school didn't dare risk any physical contact for the fear of a very large lawsuit.
If schools were able to spank on a limited basis, kids would behave better and learn not to act up in class.

Yes, the kids in my school got spanked with a big wooden paddle about 6" wide, 18" long, and 1" thick.
It was not an effective deterrent.

We used to get "the stick"... The made us hold out our hand and they would whip our palms with a rattan stick. I never saw it in High School but remember a couple of times they tried to do it to me in 7th grade for smoking in the boys room. I told them to F**k, off so I got suspended for 3 days instead.

Yes. I'm 37. In 6th grade I got the paddle for getting into a food fight with another kid in the cafeteria. He got the paddle too.

Yeah in the eighties in PA they could and did paddle students.

i think so, spanking is the number one most effective way of disciplining kids. but they must know their limits. if not.. they'll end up in the nearest hospital....... ill break their bones..
