I took a HPT and it was positive, my friend read the insert and it said not to interpret the results after 10 minutes and we were both wondering why that is, any ideas?

The test should be read at 5 minutes for best results. A positive result will never disappear. The coloured line(s) may become darker and a tinted background may appear after several hours. Some negative results may later display a faint second colour line because of evaporation from the test region, which prevents complete migration of the test chemicals. Therefore, you should not read the result after 10 minutes and discard the test strip once you have read the test. Good Luck and Congrats!

I believe it is called an evaporation line.. An evaporation line will appear after 10 minutes they say and you can mistakenly think you are pregnant.. It should say in the insert. If it said positive though you are most likely pregnant!! If you have any doubt in your mind though just take another one to be sure and read the results right away (about 5 minutes) Good luck and congratulations!!

cuz the reading could change at any point from when you take it and then 10 minutes after that. but i dont think it changes from pregnant to NOT pregnant. it could change from not prego to prego. so pretty much, you're pregnant. congratulations.
