LV hotel reviews
http://www.tripadvisor.com
Later: The only reason I didn't say anything was, the reviews on trip advisor are accurate. You will not need a cab from Platinum to the strip it's only 2 blocks east of the strip on Flamingo . You would walk much further to the "four corners"(intersection of Flamingo & LV Blvd S) if you were staying at the Aladdin.
I was in LV this past December, for a two week stay. I did not stay there myself but ran into a couple that was, and they just raved about the place, said it was the nicest room they had ever stayed in. The rooms are a minimun 900sq ft , they have plasma screen TV's and their own kitchen. The only reason I figure the place has not caught on is that they have no casino, because the room rates run about half of what they would be at a comparable strip hotel/casino.
The only drawback that I can see is if you're what I would consider to be a moderately high roller> 4 hours x $100 per hand , you would get at least future comp room offers from any four star hotel on the strip. They "might" not comp your first stay, but they would want you to come back and visit them again.

Let me first say I am a Las Vegas regular. Was there three weeks ago, last weekend and I am going again in three weeks. I go about 12 time a year (from Southern California) and I stay from 3-5 nights per trip. Now, I must also say that my rooms are comped (free), but, I still know most of the hotels. I usually stay at the Hilton, but it's pricey if you're paying. Try the El Cortez. It's an older place with nice rooms, a couple of blocks from downtown. Good restaurants inside. Request a Tower Room. I have some friends that have found good rates at the Stratosphere and the Rivera. Try their web sites. Forget the reviews. Some people are happy if the room only has two cockroaches, some people aren't happy with a suite. I require clean, quiet, and in a safe neighborhood. Hope this helps.

Some people might say not having a casino at the bottom of your hotel is a good thing.
It was built to be condos, not a hotel, that's why the "rooms" are so big. I've never stayed there but I did some work in there before it opened. Seems nice enough anyway. I've heard good things about the restaurant and a few of us are planning to go check it out.

For the same price you can get a room closer to the action. By the time you pay for a few cab rides you could stay anyplace on the strip. After all the walking you will do, I assure you that you want a cab to get back to the hotel. Try Luxor - I got a room there for 89.00. Also Bellagio - I had a great special there for 129.00. Call the hotel and tell them "I am booked at the Platinum, but would prefer to be on the strip" the dates you want and ask if they have any special rates for that time period. They cut deals to get you in their place if they know you are ready to buy NOW.
I rent a car every time i go. Rent the econo class for 16.00 - 18.00/day and go anyplace. 1 cab trip will cost that much.
