If a person is given a year for a crime in county jail and three years probation in Los Angeles county. Does the probation time start when the judge passes sentence or when the person reports to the probation department after seving the jail time?

You should talk to a lawyer because sometimes a judge from one county will waive probation in favor of jail time in another county even if the crimes are unrelated.

Probation starts after the person has served his or her sentence, and reports to the probation office.
