I'm 23 and I'm afraid of the pits. Somtimes you will be fine, sometimes you won't. If you are small, you may not be fine. If you are small with big friends, you might be. Slayer is pretty hardcore and the pits get pretty crazy so I would side with your mother.

Be a man and go in the pit and if you come out a little beat up you can say you survived a Slayer concert in the pit! Seriously though, do be careful because I'm telling you from first hand experience: It can be very dangerous. You also don't know anything about the others that are in the pit as to whether they might be on drugs and might get very violent.

'At a concert where extremely heavy metal or black or death metal bands are playing, more aggressive pits are often seen. It's not uncommon for people in these pits to be deliberately shoved to the ground, even in outdoor cirles on hard asphalt or gravel. A blind eye is usually turned to abrasions and even heavy bleeding, as these injuries are expected consequences of participating in vigorous mosh pits.'

Be prepared to get bruised, scratched, maybe even bloody. It's at your own risk. Also remember with the possibilty of people shoving you around someone could accidently poke out an eye, so protect them. Have fun whatever you decide your going to have fun I'm sure.

I've seen Cannibal Corpse, Cryptopsy, and Morbid Angel: Concerts in these geres can get pretty dangerous. I do not know about Austraillia, but here in the U.S. there are people who go to these types of shows ONLY to beat the living **** out of as many people as they can when the lights go out, so have fun and be careful.
