I used to collect bookmarks when I was younger. I stopped using them because I hated how the tassles eventually fell apart. Once I replaced the tassles with friendship string, but it didn't look as nice.

Other than sticking tape on the tassle or retying them together, how do you keep them from falling apart? Or how do you put them back together?

The type of bookmarks I mean look something like this:

I meant "them" instead of "htem". Grrr. I would like to use them instead of just collecting them. Is it really too hard to put them back together? I figured there must be a way how, I just can't tell without pulling apart.

They're made delicate, they will wear out with use and they are too much trouble to put them back together.

If you are collecting them only, I would say use the magnetic photo albums. You know, the ones where the whole page pulls open and sticks when it's closed.

There are a few products out there for fabrics to stop them from fraying. If you use the one of them, make sure to let it completely dry before using it in a book, or you could end up with a permanent bookmark in your book.

See link below for no-fray choices:

I found that putting some clear nail polish on the knot and just above and below it kept the tassels from unfraying. Use a light hand in application to keep it invisible.
