Lots of people have given me heck about my opinion, but I think I support it well.

Turner is a great pick for one simple reason: Continuity. SD is a team that has the pieces in place they just needed someone to play them. Turner basically installed that offense they run in SD, so nothing there will change. No worries of LT getting underutilized or anything like that. In fact, he'll probably improve it because the receivers need a much bigger role. Granted Turner is not a great coach, heck he may not have even been the best. He's just the best fit and that's what matters. He's great at building O-lines and installing offenses. He's also great with young QBs and to me that's what SD needs the most.

He brings his own Defensive play caller who runs the 3-4, so even the defense is in good hands. Turner comes with a great package of abilities, while other coaches maybe needed something to be added.

I relaize he's 24 games under .500 as a head coach, but not every head coach has started out great. I think in time, he'll prove to be a good choice.

Although there are many coaches still available that are looking for jobs, I think the coach with the best experience and right tools for the job in San Diego is Chan Gailey. Chan has the experience (coordinator in Pittsburgh and Miami, Head coach in Dallas) and can work even with the most hard headed front offices. His quiet temperament and reputation of being a "players coach" would spark the enthusiasm of the team. Chan is the Man for the Chargers!

I say go with Jimmy Johnson. He's a proven coach who can come in and pick up where Marty left off. San Diego obviously has the talent now and I think that's what the players want. They want somebody to come in who isn't looking to "rebuild" or change their style. It's getting to the point that owners are firing so many coaches that there's not enough new coaching talent to go around. Plus Johnson has a working relationship with SD's front office and will be able to do what he wants without the BS Marty got.

Plus the Chargers are running the risk of alienating LaDanian Tomlinson. First they run off his friend/QB Drew Brees and now a coach that he respects. They're going to do some major patching up to convince the kid that San Diego is the place they want him to stay. I think only a veteran coach like Johnson could do that.

The best available coach without contractual entanglements is Marty Schottenheiemer.

Parcells - 1 years forced retirement
Cowher - 1 year of forced retirement
Any Other Active (Usually some one mentions Jeff Fisher, Pete Carrol, and Charlie Weis) under contract and/or really hard to pry from their current team

it looks like the only three coaches with a clear shot of getting the job are Norv Turner, Mike Singletary and Ron Rivera. Personally, I would go with Turner. Even though his head coaching record isn't spectacular, with LT, he would go all the way. But then again, Singletary knows what it takes to get to the big game and win it all..... I would hate to be inside the Charger organization right about now.

Personally, I would go with Jeff Fisher. He's proven what he can do with a decent team, I think he would make the excellent Charger team into an unstoppable "Force of Nature." The Chargers MUST be desperate enough after the "One and Out" Schottenheimer fiasco to offer Fisher at least double what he's making in Tennessee.

Jeff Fisher + SD Chargers = easy ride to the SB!

They should have stuck with the coach they had IMHO. That was some rotten luck they had with the Pats, but they didn't get to that game by accident. Now they have to hire someone who has already been passed over by other teams.
