Can anyone tell me the quickest way to get rid of the common cold? I have itchy watery eyes (my kids think I'm crying), runny nose that won't stop, coughing, stopped up nose (doesn't make sense that's it's running too), headache, etc. Help me please. I am currently taking dayquil during the day and nyquil at night along with cough drops and some zycam. Nothing seems to be helping at all. I have been taking these meds for 6 days now. Thanks in advance.

By now your body is exhausted. Drink plenty of water. Eat light foods that are easy to digest, like fruits, vegetables. Stay away from meats. Do you know what algea is? Get some from the health food store or get someone to buy it for you. Algea has protein in it. You need protein to make the T cells that fight off colds. Real chicken soup is easy to digest, get some. Decongestants will help you breath so you can sleep at night, sudafed works. Sleep is the best healer, get lots of it. Warm baths or showers will help you sweat it out. Change the bed sheets daily, your getting rid of the toxins through your skin. You don't want to sleep on them. If you know how to meditate, spend the day doing it.

Have you considered going to the doctor for this? You could have something more serious. If it's just the common cold, take 2 capsules of garlic and two of Goldenseal to start. You can get these at any drug store. Then reduce the dose to 1 capsule 4 times a day: breakfast, lunch, dinner and bedtime. Take with food because it can cause an upset stomach. Garlic contains a natural antibiotic, Allicin and Goldenseal will boost the immune system and the effectiveness of the Garlic. Continue this for 5 days.

Stay away from eggs, dairy products of any kind and extremely cold foods. Drink plenty of hot decaf tea when you are thirsty, no coffee or caffeine. Hope you feel better real soon.

I like the old wives tale about drinking OJ, soup & avoiding milk that may cause phlem & contribute to congestion. Usually they just have to run their course. Hope you get over it, soon! I also suck on cough drops sometimes or a hard candy to keep throat moist. Lots of water to cleanse. I usually don't use the dayquil or nyquil type medicine or pills. (Hubby does/did & liked them around in case he ever needed them.) I used decongestion pills once when I had my first and only bad sinus congestion. Other times just the home-peutic remedies, worked for me. Also, very fortunate that we don't usually get a cold every year & can't remember the last time we came down with the flu. Sorry you got a case of it!

By the time you feel the cold, it's too late, not much will help as your recovery time is most likly already set.

Get healthy and your colds will only last a few days

You may have allergies. If it doesn't start to subside after a couple more days you should see a doctor.
