I agree with you--who cares? People are people. People hate it for many reasons.
First, they dislike it because it's new. it's as simple as that. When rock was new, people feared it. When disco was new people hated it. When goth was new, people ridiculed it. People don't know what to make of people dressing a different way.
Second, and this I can sort of see why they feel this way, alot of people see its fakeness. because there are a lot of people out there who dress "emo" because they want to look cool or rebellious. Not everyones like that but some are.
Third, some people feel threatened by it. Like if you were all rebellious and dark and sh!t and now someone suddenly dresses that way and it's the new trend...you feel like your artsy style is suddenly the trend.
because there ARE a lot of people who dress "emo" out there who pride themselves on being so original and unique and rebelling against the n orm...but really they all look alike. they all dress like each other, and they started it recently, just like a trend. so people feel they're hypocrites.
personally, i think some parts of the emo style are cool and some aren't. it's just a label-a three letter word-that shouldn't mean anything

Change and difference freak people out. Most emo guys are actually kind of cute! Prep and Jock are the "in" trends right now, so everyone else that refuses to fall under that title is considered wierd. Stay who you are. It is mainly a case of dominance. Like a pack of wolves. Every school, business, community.... has and Alpha Male, or Female.

Honestly, the emo "look" is perfectly fine; it is the original mentality that gets annoying. The whole suicidal bit for attention? That's just playing off of others' sympathy. Well, you know, until it got old and now anyone with the emo look is thought to be just trying to get attention. Sorry if I sound harsh.

it is a trend so its like a bunch of people who are trying extremely hard to be something that they're not. i like a lot of people who are "emo" but whats the point of being emo? to stand out? to be different?

I guess somebody has to be against it. For everything there is someone who objects. Ha ha that is life. I don't care who you are or what you look like I give everyone a chance if they show respect. I am not a big fan of labeling because who wants to be a trend. People will have their own opinons forever.

Considering I'm more "Ska/Punk", it's probably because I find emo's stereotyped as mostly White (or Asian) and mostly depressing. Sometimes I find them a little to stuck on one subject, themselves. After meeting a few of them here or there, particularly the ones who are less into the "image" for the sake of it, that it's just another wave of punk/goth, IMO.
The music, however, sounds like a knockoff of grunge.

All trends through out time have had their nay-sayers.
Hippies, yuppies, punkers, goth, etc. because it's so dramatically different from typical, that other will always oppose it.
Be emo, do your thing, enjoy it now, because when you grow up and look back at your pictures, you almost surely will say "What was I thinking?"
