Why is that so hard for most gay men to do?

To be honest it is not just down to gay men it is men in general. It is a complete difficulty (on the whole) in communicating about the way they feel. Sometimes people will allow themselves to be led by what they think their partner wants and never actually sit down and talk about their feelings or the impact that the way they are acting, is having on their partner. Some people are just wanting to put up with the status quo and rather than 'rock he boat' they will just let things drift on. The fact of the matter is the truth will out one way or another and (trust me) it is better out sooner rather than later. As to whether men will ever learn, it is down to the individual. Personally I hope I have.

Most GAY men!? Heh, heh. I am pretty sure I have heard this same question dozens of times on here from straight men talking about straight women, straight women talking about straight men, and gay women talking about gay women. It has nothing to do with being gay or male. It has to do with being a human being and an individual. All individuals are not like this, however, regardless of gender or sexual orientation. That said, being honest is a tough thing to do, because the consequences are not always as easy as we like to pretend they are. Being honest means letting yourself go and opening up, and this makes you vulnerable and it opens you up to rejection. For some people, it is not a risk worth taking. Others are more comfortable with it... especially if they do not have anything to hide. So perhaps a better question to be asking is this: what is the partner in question hiding?

Many boys out there believe "it's raining men"
They are too busy to be alligned with a healthy mind.
So many are into the one night stand hysteria and into that first encounter phenomena. It is possible to be intimate and loving. with one partner for life. and beyond. it's not so hard to set boundaries, but why bother living in the straight societies mindset. of getting hitched getting the house the picket fence and the dog. how boring. Well gay men would have a condo, a sling,
and two gay cats if they had the choice but they don't usually go down that path of enlightenment.

When will people in general realize this?

I don't think it's just a gay phenomenon; in all orientations, it seems like people don't seem to realize that honesty will create intimacy and closeness, and the lack thereof will remove it.

It is not hard for me at all. I'm not comfortable being sexually active with someone that I don't love. I think that the act of sex involves intimacy on several levels, and I don't know how people can just detach themselves and just have sex to be having it.

trust and honest takes guts, it takes fear, and most of all, it takes vulnurability. you gotta totally open up your heart and soul and share you innermost thoughts, fears, and fantacies, in order to gain true love, respect, and trust. i think it's hard for anyone who deals with self-esteem issues. even tougher to open up when you have been hurt in the past by doing so.
