i remember i was horrified just thinking that i had to go to an ob/gyn appt. but you know what it wasnt as bad as i thought it was. At mine, the first thing was the usual ht. & wt. then they did my blood pressure and then they did the pap test. which isnt that bad. since you are going to planned parenthood if you take a friend with you it can be more calming becuase he/she can be in the room with you and just have them talk to you in order to keep you distracted from the actual test. believe it or not i didnt even notice when the test was over because i had my best friend with me and we were talking about non-sense. then they will talk to you about birth control, which if you are up for it... its not a bad idea. they will discuss the more common methods and the more effective methods. so that part is up to you to listen.
good luck.
and trust me its not that bad.

The nurse will ask you if you are sexually active, could be pregnant, have ever been pregnancy, the date of your last period, do you smoke, why are you here, etc. Your blood pressure will be taken and you have to pee in a cup. The nurse will check your height and weight, then you will be asked to change into a paper gown and they give you a sheet to cover your legs. The doctor will come in and ask you questions about why you are there. Then they will do a breast exam, pap smear, and a pelvic exam. If you have a male Dr. there will be a nurse in there with you at all times. The whole think takes like 10 min. Then you will probably meet the Dr. in his/her office to discuss birth control or whatever. I have never been to Planned Parenthood, but I would suggest going to an OBGYN that way you can build a relationship with a doctor you trust because you are not guaranteed the same Dr. every time from Planned Parenthood.

With my very first visit to a gyn the dr asked me about my periods and if I was having any problems with them but because I was on my period at the time he couldn't do the exam. I was getting my pap smears (which gyns also do and who I get mine from now). They also did an exam where they felt my reproductive organs to check for masses such as cysts and such.
They will talk about birth control options as well if that is something that you are wanting to go on.
Because this will be your first time you can request to talk to the dr in plain clothes first before they do the exam. As one of the other posters suggested bring a friend along because not only will that make you calmer but can help you out with stuff if you forget anything that was said during the visit.

well for my first one they did pap, took my blood pressure, temp, etc.. all the normal things you do at a doc. she talked to me about birth control, sex, etc. they also tested me for anemia, which is a good thing b/c i found out i was anemic and needed meds for it. it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be.
