trent can finish 1/30 in 1 minute while lois can do finish 1/20 in 1 minute.together they can finish 1/30 + 1/20 in 1 minute.
to find the number of minutes to finish to whole task
x/30 + x/20 = 1(the whole task; x the number of minutes)

solve from here....
you should get 12 minutes

if 10 papers are on the route - Trent delivers a paper every 3 minutes - and Lois one every 2 minutes

in 12 minutes - Trent delivers 4 and Lois delivers 6 = 10 complete

but - I can't figure out how to write that into an equation

12 min. See, if they work together, Lois can do 1.5 times as much work as Trent can in the same amount of time. Then, 1.5+1=2.5. That's how many times more work they'll get done working together in 30 min. Then 30mindivided by 2.5 is 12 min. No one ever said they were doing just as much work. This was a thinker. Hope I'm right.

If they will leave in the same moment, from the same point, they may chat a little on the road, stop for a beer or something, so the answer is... 30 min for a newspaper? Damn!
