The sun is expected to become a red giant in about 5 billion years, swallowing the earth. Also, the sun is slowely getting brighter and hotter (it's 1/3 hotter now than it was when the earth formed). Eventually it will become hot enough for the oceans to boil away.

YES, earth is going to be destroyed by our own sun but no human will be their to notice that it is going take place after some 4 billion years because sun is in its steady state it will take time till sun burns all hydrogen in it than it will burn all converted helium to form red giant and it will explode whole solar system is going to be destroyed.

The earth definitely is going to be destroyed. The Bible teaches that God is going to make a new heavens and a new earth; and the first earth shall pass away.

Yes, when the sun goes red giant in about 3 billion years, the earth will very likely be pulled from friction.

Our Sun's present age crossed a mark of five billion years. He will be continuing to glow like this for up to five (exactly saying 4.57) billion years. After completion of those years our Sun will expand up to 10 times of his diameter and that stage is called red giant stage. In that stage our total solar system would merge in Sun. Then our Earth, moon, all the planets, asteroids, comets all elements in our solar system would go in to Sun as they came from the Sun. Later our Sun will become a White dwarf and the lighting from him would reduce as the hydrogen in him exhausts. Then he will become a neutron star and finally would or wouldn't become a black hole. Let us hope that again this solar system would originate and again our Star Sun would born and in our Earth we all will born and meet in Yahoo Answers....!
