This is more of a hypothetical question than anything but I was wondering, since I heard birth control is less effective after a missed pill (one day of forgetting to take the pill) -- does this still apply if the missed day happened to be during the period? So if a girl forgot to take her pill one day during her period and a few days later had unprotected sex, would the missed pill greatly affect the chances of becoming pregnant?

Birth control pills contain 3 "active" weeks and 1 "inactive" week of pills. The active weeks all contain hormones while the last week does not contain any hormones (it is the week you get your period) and is sometimes referred to as a sugar pill. Since there aren't any hormones in the pills on the week of your period missing one or not taking any of those does not affect the risk of pregnancy at all. Having sex while on birth control pills (when taken correctly) is not unprotected sex. Missing one pill (of the active pills) is not necessarily a big deal although any more than that can mean pregnancy is a risk. If you get a prescription from a doctor they will generally tell you all of this and it is also on the instructions that come with the pills so in case you ever forget they are there.

when you have your period you don't even have to take the pill that's in the case during menstruation- most women skip taking the pill that week. It's only a sugar pill and is included to only keep you in the habit of taking it every day.

Well, it's like this. Usually when you are on the pill and you are taking the NON-active (placeboes) and you're in the process of having your period, the chances are somewhat lower. But ANYTIME you have sex, you take the chance of becomeing pregnant.

Yes, it could.
Four of my children were born with 4 different failed birthcontrol methods. Nothing is for sure.
