I left my room for 2 hours and when I got back the female was at the bottom of her breeding net without moving at all and the male was right under the female but he was face upward and without moving or reacting! So I thought: Ok, they are dead... when suddenly the female starts to swim, then I guessed that only the male was dead and when I removed the net to grab the male he suddenly began to swim... normally, even to bother the female (his usual behavior). What were my guppies doing? I guess they were sleeping...

Assuming they are acting ok now I would say don't worry about it. It's really impossible to know why fish do some of the things they do.

Maybe the male was "checkin' out" the female...you know...from below.

Anyway, seriously. I'd say you are exactly right, they were sleeping. I ma staring at my tank with some guppies in it right now and they are non-stop movers. The only time I have seen them act like that is when they are sleeping.

So to answer your question really well:

Yes.

I have 1 fish in a 10 gallon aquarium and all he does is sit on one spot by the air pump all day.

The fish could have just been bored but you shouldn't worry, fish float to the top when they die.
