We had a large tropical tank with, 1 angel,2 silver sharks, and some neon tetras and 1 bloodfin tetra as the other bloodfins comitted suicide about 1 1/2 years ago. our filtration broke down about 8mths ago and we gave all the fish to the local aquarium. 6 months later a baby bloodfin appeared, nobody can explain it, he was about 1/2 cm long, he is in a small tank now with filtration and has grown to full size. No other fish have appeared and we were stunned to find that one, Nobody can tell us how it happened. Please explain if possible.

These tetras are easy to breed in a well planted tank.To get them to breed condition them well with live foods and such. The Bloodfin tetra will lay 650 to 800 clear colored eggs. The eggs will float on top of the water. Spawning will be done in the early morning. Parents must be removed because they will eat the eggs when they sink to the bottom. Eggs with hatch in about 24 hours. Feed the fry brine shrimp.Water for breeding should be slightly acidic. The Bloodfin Tetra are more likely to breed in a species tank but I have had it happen in a community tank.

Nope can't be explained from what you know and tell above. Bloodfins are egg scatterers that do require at least one male and one female to get the job done.
