the odds are horrible.
He's like a virus. One that can't be eliminated. You can only keep a virus dormant, but once it has an outbreak, the effects are horrendous.
Just like Bettman. He won't go away. Once he goes into outbreak mode, we are left with pathetic schedules, horrible tv contracts, and an all star game that nobody knew what happened in cuz nobody watched it. Please find a cure......

Not until 2010. He is there to stay until the current CBA is up. He had his contract extended while he was negotiating during the lockout.
Has he ruined the game? Not all of it, but it is not looking good. Will he be fired or not be retained? We can only hope that the owners will put the sport ahead themselves and stop listening to the tree huggers and media people that got beat up in school and could never play sports themselves so they decided to write about it like they are experts.
Just look at the Hockey News and listen to the NHL announcers and you will find them sucking up to the NHL and Bettmans poor decisions. I thought The Hockey News would have at least maintained its position to keep the NHL a sport that is exciting and held onto tradition.
Enough of this mess! FIRE BETTMAN!!! Bring back the NHL!

I hope the odds of getting rid of him are good. I can't stand the guy and there is not a doubt in my mind that he completely destroyed the game. By making fighting taboo, he has blown the door wide open for the European influence. I don't care what anybody says, fighting is an integral part of hockey and the large majority of fans love it. Removing it only gives you one less thing to enjoy about the game.
I played the game all of my life and I cannot stand watching 90% of the games on TV. The remaining Candian teams still know how the play the game: fast, physical and no fear of dropping the gloves.

Odds..not good until his contract is up.
For those of you who say he's ruined the game...please expand on that. I'll give you some of his dumb ideas of too many expansion teams, the glow puck, and all star game TV day choice this year, but if nothing else he got a group of idiot owners to wise up and get a salary cap linked to revenue...just like the successful sports business models of the NFL and the NBA.

About the same as the Flyers/Comcast getting rid of Ed Snider, the Maple Leafs getting new ownership, and the Blackhawks getting rid of the Wirtz family.

I don't think hockey should get rid of him. He has done a great job with the NHL. He has improved scoring and has been amazing at slowly but surely rejuvanating the NHL back to how it used to be since the Lost Season. Interest in hockey continues to grow and will be up where it used to be, if not higher. He has also added the shootout to hockey which has made the Regular Season as fun as ever, while still maintaining the excitement in the Playoffs with OT.
