I tend to be a stress case...a worrier. So when I want to forget about my problems, which tend to become magnified when I am trying to fall asleep (which is harder when I am dwelling on my problems), my no fail method is to start thinking about what i would do if I won the mega lotto. Granted , I don't even play the lottery, but the pleasurable feelings I get from imagining what i would buy and/or do, help me to relax and fall asleep. my brother says that is denial, but the way, I look at it if I can't do anything about it, esp. in the middle of the night, what is a little escapism going to do.
Alcohol doesn't cut it because that just makes me feel worse...
Other than that, just do what you can or are able to do to help your situation, and then pray or imagine your life with lotto riches....I'm telling you, it works!

I find hard physical work will do it for me.... especially in a garden as I can put my mind and body into the task at hand and my emotional, creative, ad spiritual self seems to benefit from the creative aspect of gardening while my body and mind benefit from the hard physical labour....
Have just built a large fern and palm garden which involved digging a lot of palms some quite large out of lots of different places ( we live on a large property) by shovel and then placing them altogether in another spot. The heavy digging really works some stress out and seeing the end result really makes me feel good about myself....
it is a win-win situation...

First of all analyse them and solve those which are solvable. And if you think some one else is responsible for your problems, eithr talk to them and see whether you can bring about any change or accept the situation. And forgive yourself and the other people for the problems.
Thank God for the problems since they are the real teachers in life.

Focus, instead, on your blessings. Don't just bring them to mind, but re-invest in them. Examples: Spend an afternoon with a friend, who lives nearby. Phone family and friends that live further away. Take a walk in the park because you can walk, see, smell, hear and touch.
Give up on trying to fix what you can't right now. Fix as much as you can by getting some help to do it.
If you believe in God, let go and let him.

Sleep. Exercise. Watch a funny movie. Hang out with your nieces/nephews. Sometimes too much alone time makes you constantly think about your problems and you need to take a break from yourself and chat, laugh, hang out with others.

Make a list. Then you won't have to be thinking about it all of the time. Later when you feel like you want to consider your problems you can go back to your list and deal with them.

Just try make yourself busy in any activity(Gardening, singing etc). But you should know life is full of problems and difficuties. If you want to forget your problems "try to remove someone's problems and make them cheer/happy." I find my happiness in others and hope you will try too.

Sit down and work out your problems first, that way you get it out of your system. Now if you can solve any of them thats a bonus.
Once you have done that, and you have admitted to yourself what problems you have and what you need to do, find and interest or hobby.
Hope it works
It worked for me!

Drugs are one of the best ways if you've tried that before, like coke. But if that isn't your cup of tea, and it hasn't been mine for awhile, then drinking is definately the best way. Something hard but comforting like irish coffees. If you don't feel like that, then watching a good movie with a pizza is pretty good, too. Lastly, playing with your pet like cat or dog is helpful.
Sleeping just makes me feel worse, like more depressed. Too much sleep isn't good.
