t d (below) - racism exists in many fashions and in every culture. However, I am speaking of the overtly expressed disdain and abusive behavior of racism.

ex: While in the Air Force stationed in Louisiana, a mall security guard without provocation stated that I was going to steal hubcaps to make my purchases. I retorted that was funny. "Wouldn't it be funnier if I snatched you from behind that counter and beat your a__."

In Chicago, people have the right to think what ever they want. Unlike certain areas, they don't feel ENTITLED to express racist thoughts to whomever they see fit. Simply because of the law AND the knockout punch or gun shot that would immediately follow. I am referring to all races to include blacks and whites.

shal (below) I'm not referring to individuals. I am referring to entire states. I know that racism knows no economic boundaries when it comes to individuals. As a collective, racism appears to hold the collective back.

Could it not be the that many racist states, historically where the ones most dependent on slave labor and later where slow to develop an industrial base.
Many union states consisted of a small elite and poor uneducated masses, hardly conducive to economic growth (which thrives on free enterprise and an educated/motivated work force). Racism would only help to perpetuate this situation...
Also it could be related to the nationality/culture of European immigrants that where attracted to those states.
And yes, racism is not a catalyst to economic growth, quite the contrary.
The question is rather if it is not merely a symptom, or is it the problem?
Maybe the answer to the present is in the past and the future shaped by how we deal with it.

The rich self destructs the poor. The poor is powerless to the rich. The powerless succumbs to the Superior. My answer is the rich are the holders of prejudice, discriminations, and abuse their power. It has nothing to do with education. Look, the man that can't be taught because he has Down Syndrome is happy go lucky and loving. How can you say that uneducated man is a racist. A person that has less and knows least tends to be more innocent. A person that has all and knows more tends to be guiltier of wrong doings. The poor does not run this Country or its govenment, or its public schools. The School Systems should be ashamed of themselves. That's the way the rich keep the poor to stay poor....by making sure they are "least educated".

Yes! If they would get a job and work they wouldn't have
time to sit around and complain about everyone else.

Looks that way. Of course it's destructive in many ways. Why can't we all just get along?
