I am sooo for the Dyson!!!! I can't tell you how much I love this vacuum. I have had it for 3 years and not had one problem, where I have spent a ridiculous amount of money replacing Kirbys....Eurekas...you name it. I have 3 hairy dogs and the Animal Dyson (it's purple) is amazing!!!! I think the only difference between their standard vacuum and the Animal are the attachments (and about $100) So depending on how much you would benefit from the Animal versus the standard yellow Dyson is how much you think you'd use the attachments. The hose of the Animal is also long and efficient. I can stand at the bottom of my stairs and move all the way up my 13 stairs while vacuuming without having to lift the canister. After 3 years I am still in awe with this machine!
By the way....consumer reports also rated a washing machine I bought as perfect...the machine has a class action lawsuit pending. I would believe word of mouth rather than reports from now on.

Consumer Reports just did an issue on vacuums and Dyson wasn't the best. They rated two models a best buy, one was a Kenmore by Sears and the other was an Eureka 4870. I have the Eureka and it only cost $139 at Walmart. This thing sucks pet hair great.
