There are 9 plyers in a batting order on a baseball team. Keep in mind though, in the National League all the position players bat for themselves but in the American League the is the designated hitter rule which means you can substitute a batter (usually the pitcher) for someone else in the batting order.
A standard pool game uses 15 balls (7 solid, 7 striped and the 8 ball) not counting the cue ball.

In the MLB it is always 9 but in little league it can be anywhere from 8-15.
In the American League the players that bat are:
Catcher
1B
2B
3B
SS
LF
RF
CF
Designated Hitter
In the national league its the same but the pitcher bats rather than the Designated hitter.
In 9 Ball there is 9 and in 8 ball there are 15
