With the use of negative thinking you will never be disappointed.

e.g. When others let you down, your negative thinking already thought of that possibility and was expecting it.

e.g.2 When a relative dies, negative thinking already preempted that all life ultimately ends in death and therefore you do not expect anyone to wave a magic wand and make it all better.

It is a very 'safe' way to live, as anything positive that happens is a bonus, and many people with low self esteem/ self efficacy/ depression tend to do this a lot.

Although you have to remember that with negativity and pessimism you will lead a rather solemn life, especially when practising the art of negative self talk; everyone does it, but when you do it most of the time, other people start to believe what you say.

Have a look at this website, its painfully true (and incredibly blunt):

best wishes,

Linda

There is no advantage being negative but being realistic is very important. Thinking everything is ok and living in dream world is not good you need to face problems to deal with them. I believe in the law of attraction everyone should download the secret this teaches you how to manipulate your mind to obtain your dreams a must view for anyone. The main problem with negative thought is that it usually doesn`t make you deal with things or force you into action being poss can make you have more get up and go

I agree, there are no advantages to negative thinking. However, there are many disadvantages. Those that I know that think negatively in general, hate their lives, their jobs, their relationships, etc. They also get sick often and take a long time to heal. Not to mention, they drag everyone around them down. I avoid negative people like the plague!

Positive thinking is important to success and learning new things. If a person doesn't believe they can learn a new skill, chances are it will be very difficult for them to be disciplined enough to learn it. Negative thinking can be very useful in business. In business, it's important to look at what problems might arise. Lawyers use negative thinking in cases to try to figure out negative thoughts a witness might give a jury. Also, it's important in advertising. Advertisers are always looking at the negative impact an ad may have. In health care, pharmaceutical company's look at the negative impacts a drug could have on a patient. In the military, negative thinking is important to see where tactics might go wrong. Positive thinking is important for developing new ideas. Negative thinking is important for weeding out the ideas that may not be ideal.

Negative thought and negative action promote more negativity. If you think negatively you will probably not be disappointed but you will never act in a positive manner either.
If you think all the time that "I will not get ill" you probably will because you only perceive the negativity and the illness. The thought "I will stay well" is linguistically similar but as a positive thought and concept your body can learn to deal with it and you will stay well.
Positive thought provides positive re-enforcement and a positive attitude.

Everything has energy. There are no advantages to negative thinking. The disadvantages are that if all you are putting out is negative energy, then, don't be surprised if that is all that you get back!

A good example of a negative way of thinking:

"I need everyone's approval to feel worthwhile"

Pros:
1. Makes me take extra care in how I treat people.

Cons:
1. Is effectively an all or nothing way of thinking as it discounts the people who do approve of me.
2. Places my self-esteem in the hands of other people.
3. Allows other people to take advantage of this, and manipulate me.
4. Reduces my ability to be assertive.
5. Reduces my chance of happiness.
