when you reinstall an OS you need to delete the partitions. you always delete them otherwise there is no reason to reinstall the OS. when you just installed it you probably installed in accidently on the wrong one and it wont work now lol. this is easily fixed. when you boot your xp disk from the cd: ie put it in then restart your computer pressing F11 i think it is. it will check your drives and show the partitions on the screen. it gives you teh option of deleting them and you need to do that to release ALL data off of your computer and open up all available space. just ignore all of the warnings. then you choose big space that should say like 77 Gb or w.e and it will say do you want to do whatever to this space and you can choose the quick format .. the regular one just checks the disk for errors. if you want to choose it that is fine but it is not mandatory. then the rest is self explanatory.

You must uninstall from partition D and reinstall to partition C.

You would need to reinstall windows onto the C: drive.

Sometimes when the installer detects an os already installed on a drive, it installs on another drive thinking that you are trying to set up a dual boot system.
