You'll need to replace the CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamp) tube. It is very rare for a CCFL tube to burn out (if it has) so even if your screen is a couple of years old it's probably still in warranty (and therefore eligible for a free repair!)

Even if that's not the case, you still shouldn't attempt to fix it yourself. The repair can be very challenging and even if you're up to it, the replacement parts won't be cheap!

You dont need to buy a new backlight. Im not talking crap about the other answer above me but calling it a "backlight" is someone unexperienced with this issue. What you need to buy is an "INVERTER" for your screen. Do a search for your monitor then type in the word "INVERTER" without the quotes and buy that... It should be a semi-long thin board. Very easy to instal.

You would need to buy a new backlight, take the entire monitor apart and install a new one.

This is not an easy job and I would suggest you get someone with experience to do it.

Could be the lamp, the inverter (or if you're really lucky a poor connection between them). see www.inventgeek.com/Projects
/BacklightFix/Overview.aspx (I've put a return in the url, otherwise it gets shortened for some reason).
