Does MSI make good AM2 X2 or FX motherboards. It has a Nivida N-force 500 series chip set.

MSI is not bad. From my experience their warranty service is up to par with bigger names such as Epox and Asus, and it is generally much cheaper.

I only use ASUS motherboards. I have had extremely good luck with them. I'm a heavy gamer so I usually put them through the mill. I just finished putting together my new and 1st socket am2 x2. So far it's working great. The only game I need to back the graphics down on so far is quake 4. I hope this helps in your decision.

If you want to over Clock, that is one issue, whether you are a gamer or not makes no difference.

Any one that wants a high performance system, for any reason, buys the same higher performing products. There is not one CPU for gamers and a different one for everyone else, be it CAD, video animation, NASA/scientific requirements or medical research.

Check out tomshardware, PCMAGAZINE to support your motherboard selection. Settle on the type of CPU that you want to buy first, that will dictate the class of motherboard!

Msi and FoxConn are both good brands for am2 boards just dont go with the onboard graphics buy a separate pci express graphics card.

You can check out some benchmarking on both brands here: http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=2075&page=9

MSI hands down will work right outta the box easily. Asus for me has been hit or miss, but when it hits BOY is it nice.
Whoever had great luck with Asus, I envy you so much.
