To put it crudely but effectively, when someone has you by the b*lls you tend to be polite. Saudi Arabia is the 900 lb. gorilla of the oil world. Everyone is willing to ignore their abuse as long as they keep pumping oil.

The expression 'human rights' doesn't have the same meaning for everyone. Many people in Saudi Arabia believe in promoting Islamic Human Rights. Which are in some respects very different from the Human Rights known in the West. I suppose their response to you would be that you don't know Islam because you are not a muslim. And you are not qualified to advise them what Islamic Human Rights should be. Only widely respected Islamic Scholars are qualified to give advice on Human Rights in Islam. And even then the matter of Human Rights in Islam may not be completely clear and certain because Islamic Scholars sometimes disagree with each other.

The human slave trade has been a long standing (actually for hundreds of years) tradition for many other countries. We ourselves once saw anyone of a different color or religion to be an inferior race, especially when they are poor, indigent people who cannot help themselves. I'm not saying I agree with this at all. In fact, human trafficking is the most sickening display of injustice there is. All I'm trying to point out to many of you who may not know this is that, this is a way of life in many other parts of the world. These people simply don't know better and/or they just don't care. Because of this long standing tradition of the human slave trade though, it will not be so easy to undo. It has to be a gradual progression of education, sanctions by other countries or maybe even a threat or 2. I'm not sure where the answer to this tragedy may reside. I just know that there are no quick fixes.

You are talking about ISLAM...the religion of the Middle East. Why did George W. Bush go after Iraq and not Saudi Arabia?
Islam is not a religion for the equality of women. Saudi Arabia is one of the richest countries in the world, and yet their women are treated like serfs of the Middle Ages. The women are going to have to stand up for their rights. Living behind the veil needs to stop.

Lemme ask you this: does the "global community" really have a right to interfere with an ancient cultural tradition like a monarchy? Also, Saudi Arabia is a military business partner to the US. They usually buy hardware, like the F-16, from them and that's why the US are not intervening. Money talks.

There is no Global community, there is a group of rich power elitists who control the vast majority of the world's wealth. These people do nothing to promote freedom or equality, the only distribution that are interested in is acquiring more wealth and power. They did with money, what Hitler tried to do with bullets in Europe, took Africa with even less notice, and literally bought the Industrial base of the United States of America right out from under the American's, thereby in effect conquering the U.S. without even firing a shot. All done with economics and money over time.
Asia is their last target. As soon as America exaustes it's miliary arsenal, it will find no industrial base from which to resupply it's military and no industrial economy to support it's people. The World bank will be there to "help" and the World Court will be there to provide stability, complete with U.N. "peacekeepers" to inforce rule of "international" law. Freedom and equality have nothing to do with it.

Good question. The global community does care about human rights violations all over the world but the problem with S. Arabia is that people aren't aware of it as much and they are an ally of the U.S.

I believe you will have a hard time trying to convince the global community with your complaints as Saudi women who wear the chaddor/veil have always put up with subserviance and 3rd class citizenship. Perhaps if you all just shed the black garb and veils the entire world would hear you all loud and clear. Shake up those Sheiks a bit.

Islamic law allows human rights violations to occur especially when it is an implementation of a punishment meted by the court. It is different in a democratic country because penalties were humane.

Personally I think everything is just a farce; governments and politics showing false interest in democratization of worlds' toughest regimes...The real thing behind all of it is business; we can start with weapon industry, proceed with oil and other material sources interest and cheap workers of course...At the end we come to conclusion only naive people are unable to perceive, and that is money, profit and exploitation is all that really matter...
