Feb. 13, 2007 — A new study from the University of Arizona says that women's offices have 3½ times more germs than men's.

http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/OnCall/story?id=2870987&page=1

"Women's purses can pick up a lot of germs. Gerba's study found FECAL BACTERIA IN ONE-THIRD OF THE HANDBAGS TESTED"

"Women's offices tend to be dirtier than men's for the following reasons. First, they tend to use hand lotion more often, which gets on surfaces and traps germs. Then, they tend to be around children more often then men, and we all know how easily kids transmit germs. And finally they use makeup, which tends to absorb germs. Then it rubs off the face or gets scattered by brushes and sponges," he said.

"Women, in particular, are more likely to put food in there. I'm not sure exactly why — maybe because they are more likely to be secret snackers," he said.

"We actually found a lot of mold inside the drawers because of food. Disinfectant wipes are a good way to eliminate bacteria and mold that accumulate."

Why are we so discriminated against we are forced to work in filth?

Baba Yaga get a sence of humor. Haha it's funny, looks he even made himself a turkey avatar to show how much of a turkey you are.

It's women's own fault if their offices are dirtier than men.

omg, my mom puts her purse EVERYWHERE, even on dirty, public bathroom floors...ew.

Anyway, how is it someone else's fault if some women are dirty? I just don't get this. My mom worked in an office for 15 years and she was very clean(except for her purse). Some women weren't, and some were. Some men weren't, and some were.

I never put my purse on dirty floors, in fact the only floor I'll put it on is my bedroom floor.

Sooo? What's the problem here? The fact of life that some people are dirty and some people aren't still hasn't changed.

The question is ridiculous.

It reeks of a persecution complex.

It screams you are too lazy to keep your own work area clean.

What is your point?

Oprah did a special on germs weeks ago that had many more things covered than just potty rooms. Next time you are in a hotel room, remember there are urine stains on the rug right where you place your feet beside the bed in 100% of the hotel rooms. And remember, when you go shopping, wipe off the handle of the cart before touching it. That was a major hot spot!

Good thing I don't carry a purse then isn't it. Thanks for the info.
Hand lotion is a bad thing! How many men wash their nasty hands after using the restroom, it doesn't matter if they did because they just touched the door handle and germ infested they are again. Children always carry germs, no argument there. It is obvious that you are a lonely, bitter male with no chance of ever getting a woman, but I applaud your question full of information probably conducted by a group of lonely men.

OHOHOHOH...Happy Bullet has LOST IT AGAIN!!!!!!!

Men's Health
Restroom Habits Exposed
"Men, handwashing and the restroom"

"The research firm Harris Interactive conducted research into the handwashing habits of American men and women in four cities. 6,000 people were observed at six public attractions. Grand Central Station and Penn Station in New York; Turner Field in Atlanta; The Museum of Science and Industry and Shedd Aquarium in Chicago and Ferry Terminal Farmers Market in San Fancisco were the focus of interest.

Their findings? Although 9 out of 10 people say they wash their hands after using the rest room only 8 out of 10 actually do! Men were more guilty of omitting essential hand wash hygeine than women. Only 75% of men washed their hands compared to 90% of women.

The research funded by The American Society for Microbiology and the Soap and Detergent Association found some city's venues attracted very different washing habits.

In Penn station, New York only 64 percent of the men washed their hands after using the washroom compared with 92% of women.

In Atlanta's Turner Field sports fans (men and women) only 74% washed their hands.

San Francisco shoppers were the most diligent handwashers, 88% washed their hands.

Mmm, something to think about next time you shake hands!"

EDIT:
And Robinson, not just a "huge study that analyzes a lot" but one that was conducted over a 20 year period. You can find a more authoritative source than the APA???
Oh, and if you find my occassional shrillness "unladylike"...then you ain't seen nuttn' yet!

Sorry, but that really is kind of funny, Baba Yaga. Come on; going to those sorts of lengths just to mock you? Give the guy some credit.

EDIT (To Real Baba Yaga): Yeah, it is pretty important considering that, but there are real differences if you look at the study. 11+% differences (the ones I pointed out) are statistically significant. One shouldn't use that to justify discrimination, but the data does speak for itself.

EDIT: Bird-like "Baba Yaga," whether you're Happy Bullet or not, I was just reading some of your posts and I assure you they were unbelievably hilarious. Keep up the good work, no matter which tag you post under!

oh why oh why do we have two baba yaga's? that is so confusing and frustrating for us women. i wish that i could just tell the difference between the two. oh, i do so wish.

anyway, baba's post is right. men dont tend to wash their hands. and the sad thing is is that they actually touch stuff when they go to the bathroom. women use toilet paper, so their hands dont actually touch anything, and yet in general more women wash their hands.

more disturbing than the office desk one though, is the level of germs found on the bottom of a ladies bags. ladies, please do not ever put your bag on a bench - it is absolutely covered in germs from all the times it sits on bathroom floors, train floors, bus floors, restuarant floors etc. (shudder) that study is true though. there are more germs on our office desks than there is on the office toilet. gross. i think i will stop leaving containers of nuts in my desk that i used to use for snacking.
