The first time I stole (a candy bar from the checkout) I got a hardcore spanking right in front of the whole store. That was when I was little and wasn't great with logic and figuring out long-term consequences. A few years later, my sister did it and was old enough to feel the shame when mom made her go back and return the item to the manager and explain exactly what she did wrong. Now, with all the no-spanking rallies, you could try to steal from him to show him how his actions hurt other people. Go for a favorite blanket, toy, clothes, whatever depemding on the age and interest of the kid. Give it back after he's learned his lesson.

I'm questioning number 3. what the heck man, first you say that stealing is wrong, then you say it's okay when his three months are up. Don't confuse the kid.

umm.. no.
1. if you give him/her an allowance, make them pay it off..
2. give extra chores until item/s are paid off
3. grounding is good here
4. return stolen items with a sincere apology
i reccomend all of the above

Leave your kid's room empty except for a bed!
When they ask what happened, shrug your shoulders and say you guess someone stole their things!
